TAROVERIE / COLORS

Tarot colors

Color is one part of a card’s visual language. Find the color first, then read the object, gesture and surrounding scene.

These nine entries compare colors in the Rider–Waite–Smith deck. Associations vary by deck, tradition and printing; a color alone is not a prediction.

Red

Both the Magician’s outer robe and the Emperor’s clothing use red, but their poses and surrounding objects differ. Locate the colour before discussing how it directs attention.

Meaning

Red can form a conspicuous area that draws attention to a figure’s body or action. This is a compositional observation, not a fixed personality, element, or verdict assigned to the colour. Printing and screens also alter saturation.
