TAROVERIE / COLORS

Tarot colors

Color is one part of a card’s visual language. Find the color first, then read the object, gesture and surrounding scene.

These nine entries compare colors in the Rider–Waite–Smith deck. Associations vary by deck, tradition and printing; a color alone is not a prediction.

Gray

Gray can quiet a visual focus or describe stone, clothing and an unsettled sky.

Meaning

The Hermit’s robe makes the lamp more noticeable; the Hierophant’s stone pillars belong to a formal architectural setting. The same color serves different objects. Gray is not a universal sign of neutrality or wisdom.
