TAROVERIE / COLORS
Tarot colors
Color is one part of a card’s visual language. Find the color first, then read the object, gesture and surrounding scene.
These nine entries compare colors in the Rider–Waite–Smith deck. Associations vary by deck, tradition and printing; a color alone is not a prediction.
Black
Dark backgrounds and skies can draw attention to uncertainty, endings and a narrowed field of view.
Meaning
Look for the objects creating a restriction and any remaining light. The Devil’s chains give a concrete focus to bondage; the Ten of Swords leaves a bright horizon beneath its dark sky. Black alone does not foretell harm or mean evil.
