ART & EXPRESSION

Artistic language

Broad colour blocks, compressed figures and vigorous carved contours give the deck an immediate material presence. Details differ from later standardized Marseille patterns, while suit emblems and trump structures make comparison possible.

History & tradition

Jean Noblet was a Parisian cardmaker. His circa-1650 pack is among the earliest surviving French tarots of the family later associated with the Marseille pattern. Five numbered Swords cards are missing from the surviving set, so this archive records seventy-three extant cards rather than silently reconstructing a complete modern deck.
