Artistic language
Dodal's figures feel compressed yet animated. Uneven contours, abbreviated faces and blocks of red, blue, green and yellow retain the energy of the carved and stencilled process. Comparing it with later Conver cards reveals a family resemblance without erasing workshop-level difference.

History & tradition
Jean Dodal produced this pack in Lyon between about 1701 and 1715. It belongs to the historical family later called Tarot de Marseille, a label that covers related but non-identical patterns. Taroverie therefore presents Dodal and Conver as separate decks rather than treating one as a generic illustration for the other.
