Artistic language
Numbered allegorical scenes carry printed labels and directional meanings. The deck reorganizes familiar tarot material into a purpose-built cartomantic sequence, so visual comparison with Marseille or RWS cards reveals both echoes and major structural differences.

History & tradition
Jean-Baptiste Alliette, writing as Etteilla, helped turn tarot divination into a published method in eighteenth-century France. Grand Etteilla is not merely a renamed Marseille deck: its sequence, cosmology and card attributions form a distinct system. Taroverie presents a historical public-domain edition and does not treat later reprints as automatically free to reuse.
