When Messages Arrive Together, Handle the One with a Real Deadline First

Dense notifications can make everything seem urgent. Use the Eight of Wands to sort by deadline and responsibility, leaving room to ask about unclear content so speed does not replace judgment.

Your phone keeps lighting up, and several people say their matters are urgent. Rather than replying instantly to each, write beside every message when its task actually needs completion.

Noa Lin uses the Eight of Wands’ multiple flight paths to remind readers that receiving things together does not mean finishing them together. Some are merely notices; others require action from you.

For unclear requests, ask what must be delivered and who is responsible. A short clarification usually saves more time than rushing to finish a task nobody requested.

Once you choose the immediate task, tell others when you expect to reply. This avoids deciding priorities again every time a notification sounds.

After a focused period, temporarily turn off unnecessary notifications. Timely response can be a skill; constant interruption need not be its proof.
